The Space Between in the Florida Keys

Shopping in Old Town, kayaking the mangroves, and leaving room for the day to unfold The first thing I loved about our week in the Keys was the space between the things we did. We had ideas. We knew there were shops to explore, places to eat, and water to get out on. But most mornings began with sitting around, enjoying the slow pace, and eventually asking what everyone felt like doing. Sometimes the answer depended on whether we were hungry. Sometimes it depended on what we were making for dinner. Did we need groceries? How long would dinner take to cook? Should we save room for something delicious later? These were perfectly satisfactory matters around which to arrange a day. We had exchanged our usual responsibilities for the question of whether lunch might interfere with dinner. An excellent trade. Our one fixed appointment was Tuesday’s anniversary sail. Around it, the week had room to breathe. A starfish clip on Petronia Street One shopping wander took us to Petronia Street in Ba...

A Gentle Sunday Reset for the Week Ahead

Some Sundays are not for doing more. They are for returning to yourself.

A gentle Sunday reset is less about productivity and more about creating a sense of calm before the week begins.

For me, it looks like soft light, a tidy room, fresh linens, a few quiet lists, and a little time to think about what matters most.

Three glowing candles beside a rustic planter, creating a calm and cozy Sunday reset mood.

Not a punishing checklist. Not a day spent running errands from dawn to dusk. Just a simple rhythm that helps life feel a little more beautiful and a little more prepared.

My Sunday reset usually includes a few small things:

  • making the bed and straightening the house
  • refreshing towels, toiletries, and cozy corners
  • looking at the week ahead
  • planning a few meals
  • restocking simple essentials
  • making time for coffee, reading, or creativity
  • setting the table for a good week

Small things that help me settle

I light the votive candles, write a little in my journal with my fountain pen, and enjoy a vase of flowers nearby. These small pleasures give me a moment to pause before the week begins.

A Gentle Sunday Reset checklist

It’s a chance to look around — and look ahead — and ask: What would make the coming week feel a little calmer, a little more beautiful, and a little more like the life I want to be living?

Maybe it means making the bed with fresh linens. Charging the little LED candles. Restocking the shampoo and the things that make a bathroom feel cared for. Straightening a room until there is beauty wherever you look.

Maybe it’s stepping outside with a cup of coffee. Reading a few chapters of a book. Doing a little art. Looking at your vision board and remembering what you said was important before the week begins asking things of you again.

And somewhere in the day, make something to eat.

Not because Sunday dinner needs to be elaborate, but because preparing a meal gives us a reason to come back to the table, sit down, and have a conversation.

A gentle Sunday reset isn’t about preparing to be more productive.

It’s about preparing to live the week with intention.

Bring it to the table.
